LOS NARANJOS GOLF CLUB MARBELLA
Los Naranjos has been designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. It belongs to a select group of golf courses on the Costa del Sol built at a time when suitable land was still available. They quickly gained worldwide fame, thanks to their great design during the World Cup and the Spanish Open, among other golf tournaments.
In the mid-1970s, the second group of golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior were built on the Costa del Sol: Mijas, Valderrama and Los Naranjos. Mr. Jones was consulted by the firm of José Banús, builders and designers of Nueva Andalucía and the Las Brisas Golf course, to design a second golf course in the area, just north of Las Brisas. The location could not be better, 70 hectares of land perfect for golf, with notorious undulations in the terrain, the bed of a river that crossed a field of orange trees, which gives the club its characteristic and well-known name. The instructions were simple: Banús wanted a true championship course with a classic design, with long, wide fairways and greens, that would fit both international tournaments and medium-level golfers. This was exactly what Mr. Jones designed. When the course was inaugurated, he did so simultaneously with Las Brisas. The First Hole was originally what is today Hole 3, being the closest to Las Brisas. In this way, the original hole 18 is the current Hole 2, as well as the old Club House, which today is a private home and is located next to the green of Hole 2.
